Abram Berry for President 2052

My kids have been very into election day. Well, the older two have been. Who would have thought? It started a few weeks ago when Abram excitedly cast his presdential vote on Nick.com. He kept saying, "Who says kids can't vote?" He persuaded Alex to vote too.

Alex had an election at pre-school today. They voted on what to have for snack time! It was between wheat thins and vanilla wafers. She was pretty excited to tell me that she voted today too.

Today Abram has spoken of nothing else except the election. Wondering how they are counting up the votes, when they will announce the winner, how long somebody can be president for, can they run more than once, etc. We've had some great conversations.

Then he came up to me and said, "“Do you ever have a funny feeling in your tummy that the future won’t be perfect, but good? But not perfect?” He said he had that feeling right now, and that he was talking about the election. He is very worried about the outcome.

Of course our future won't be perfect, but I will take a good one. But it sounds like he is optimistic. I am happy about that. Why shouldn't a six year old be optimistic about his future? But as I told Phil earlier, "This is no ordinary six year old."

Abram is very interested in the election. We don't talk about it much around the house, but Nickelodeon had a "kids choice" thing on their web site a couple of weeks back, and ever since he's been torn between the pros and cons of each candidate based on their respective animated webcasts. Tonight it's become apparent that Abram's sided with McCain because in his dinner prayer he begrudgingly asked that even if Brother Obama wins we'll still have a good country.
I love my little Alex P. Keaton.
